The lady who sits at my desk overnight left the TV on ABC Family and now old episodes of ‘Boy Meets World’ are playing. Can’t put a number to the years since I last saw an episode. 15? Around that. Probably not since they originally premiered in the age before DVD. Nice change of pace over the jaded Sportscenter. Feel sorry that our generation’s youth have such bad/mature programming streaming every night. Come to think of it, there isn’t a kid friendly sitcom past 8pm on network now. Sad.
Speaking of sad: Nora Ephron lost her cancer battle last night. Rest in Peace. Took a mini-break during our Jenny Lewis write up to watch the last scene of WHMS a few times. Words to live by from one of my favorite films of all time. Yes, I’m still a romantic. Became one on a late boring/sleepless 05′ night when I encountered this classic film on TV. Remember that it ran for THREE hours cause of commercials. (Why don’t I have nights like that anymore?) This continued during film school where I wrote a handful of papers on her scripts & films. Made the whole educational ‘master’ process easier. For that I thank Mrs. Ephron. Can’t wait for the impending movie marathon.
I’m okay with the fact that I’m living the single life, but I’d be lying if I didn’t have the impulse to fight for that lingering love from the past everytime I watch that clip. Sure you all feel the same about someone from your history too. The one you think about when you are watching WHMS or Casablanca at 2am on a Wednesday night. Cherish that. Seriously. Don’t make it evil. Because surely someone is thinking that about you too. Somewhere.
Lovers, ‘stand your ground’. The turntable is next…
