Spotlight Saturday: “Vacation” by The Blank Tapes

18 May

Big shout out to Riot Act Media.  They threw me into The Blank Tapes‘ new record — Vacation — out now! This is sort of album you listen to during, in, around, or to the beach.  Very bluesy, hippie, rocking Beach Boys/John Lennon sort of pop that should be the soundtrack to some really great times.  Pity I’m on my couch right now.  Feels like I’m wasting these really fun beats.  Sunshine and sand in my toes are needed!

Here’s their new video for ‘Coast To Coast’ to get you going:

Incredible huh?  Wasn’t that just heaps of fun?  The record is even more so!  Let’s keep the vibing beats going!  Here is the entire record just for you.  If I you wanted a new album of the week, surely this would do.  Vacation, all you ever wanted…

Spotlight Saturday: “Kiss Me By The Water Cooler” by Hero & Leander

18 May

Another Spotlight Saturday.  New music to be had.  Today’s first entry comes from an upcoming five piece UK band — Hero & Leander.  They are being pitched as bit like Arcade Fire, Belle & Sebastian, The Beach Boys + 1 Girl, without being bogged down by the normal comparisons since their inception back in 2010.  Like to think of them as a Pop Folk, Soul, Jazz, Fusion.

Above is their new music video for “Kiss Me By The Water Cooler” that is cute, comical, & quirky.  I recommend going through their youtube page and viewing their covers of ‘Me, Myself, & I‘ or ‘Don’t Worry Baby‘.  Really showcases their multi-talented style.

Their new album ‘Tumble‘ dropped this week, and has gotten some sweeping reviews from bloggers.  Recommend it highly.

New Video: “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

14 May

Sara Bareilles uses the ‘Harlem Shake’ YouTube craze to highlight other brave people to get out & dance in public in her new video for ‘Brave’.  Haven’t been feeling the single, poppy & a bit chessy, but the video is 4 minutes of fun.  =)’s are the point after all.

Directed by Actress Rashida Jones (of Parks & Rec fame)

New Video: “Goodbye Town” by Lady Antebellum

14 May

Golden is/was our Album of the Week.  Track 2 is the nostalgic-heartbreaking ‘Goodbye Town’ featuring Lady A’s Trio reliving their past lives in a small town.  Literal video for a literal country song.  Enjoy!

New Video: “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” by Kendrick Lamar

13 May

It’s Kendrick.  You’ve been waiting.  Now, sing the hook. Lord forgive me…

Directed By The Lil Homies & OG Mike Mihail

Spotlight Saturday: “Fireworks” by Echo Bloom

12 May

Our first Spotlight Saturday.  It’s gonna be a thing.  Just you wait.  Couldn’t have picked a better artist to highlight out the gate.  Echo Bloom is Kyle Evans of Brooklyn, NYC.  Just one guy.  One Americana up & comer with a new album — Blue — dropping on Tuesday.  Kyle wrote the entire thing while in Europe last year.  Sounds like something I would do.

If you’re into acoustic friendly rockers like Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, Beach Boys, Iron & Wine or City & Colour, then you need to check out Echo Bloom!

The More You Know:

Here’s what Echo Bloom had to say about the camera friendly artistic music video:

The shoot hinged on the Lomokino, a new take on a really old concept – a hand-cranked motion picture camera. The camera takes rolls of regular 35mm film, each of which gives you about 10 seconds of action (depending on the speed you’re cranking). We did some tests cranking at a reasonable speed and estimated that we would get about 6 frames per second, far less than the 24 fps for movies (not to mention the 30 fps for television). To combat this we decided to slow down the song by a factor of 4, lipsync to the song veeeeeeery slowly, and speed everything up in post. Fashion for the shoot was done by the haute couture designer Milu Milu.

His webpage has some amazing BTS pictures.

New Video: “Young & Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey

10 May

The Great Gatsby is out.  Soundtrack.  Film.  In two weeks the heavy ad/poster campaign around Hollywood will make way for new films and all will be forgotten until the DVD drops in the fall.  The standout track from the soundtrack is Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful”.  I’m sure you heard it.  Now, check out the extremely creepy dark video with one of the coolest looking vintage devilsih orchestras I’ve seen in music video.  There’s also her ugly face which appears countless times.  You might be saying to yourself, “Whoa Justin, that’s harsh”.  I’m fine but something about her lips just makes me cringe.  I’d still fuck her tho…sway. So excited for Mr. White & Third man to release the record on Gold & Platinum Vinyl!

New Video: “Just A Sip” by Luke Bryan

9 May

That’s not spring break, that’s just a regular Luke Bryan show.  Full of crazy fun.  Dig the song.  Dig the video.  So did this security official…hehe.  Go pick up his new record — Spring Break: Here To Party.  One of my favorite country records of 2013 so far.  Almost time to take a Wing Night sip!

Directed by Michael Monaco.

New Videos from Pusha T, Pistol Annies, Rebecca & Fiona, & Frank Turner

9 May

Music Video Megapost in the same light as our old dead segment — Daily Turntable.  It’s more videos than you’ll see on MTV right now.  And most are quite great.

New Video: “Master Hunter” by Laura Marling

7 May

Well, Laura, I was a master hunter in World of Warcraft.  (That’s a lie…master warrior!)  Doubt she’s talking about video games seeing how the music video for her new album  – Once I Was An Eagle (out May 27th) — cut is a dark & twisted contemporary dance routine.
